Travel to the lion city of Singapore

The Lion City is the world’s most flourishing country with its per capita GDP being at par with the leading world economies. Interesting story is attached to the derivation of the country’s name. Singapore is a combination of two Malay words singa and pura. Singa means lion and pura the city. Therefore, the country is called the Lion City or Singapore. According to a popular folklore a prince while traveling to this land encountered a lion which happened to be the first living creature he saw on this land. Hence, he decided to name the place as Singapore. Singapore became a British colony in 1819 and later joined the Malaysian Federation in 1963. In 1965 it became independent to become one of the best countries in the world.

The climate of Singapore is of equatorial nature. It is warm and humid almost the entire year. The rains are a common feature here. You can see intermittent showers throughout the year and hence while traveling to Singapore it would be wise to carry an umbrella or raincoat. There are no distinctive seasons in Singapore. There is uniform pressure and temperature. The hottest months are May and June while November and December happen to be the wettest months of the island.

The people traveling to Singapore must have a passport with them which has validity of more than six months from the date of their departure. If you are planning to stay in Singapore for only a period of 15 days or less then a Visa is not required. The tourist can obtain a 14-day Social Visit Pass on their arrival. These passes can be collected from the Changi International Airport. While in the country traveling is not a problem.
